FOUR STEPS TO BRAND YOU! 

People seeking a PR pro are looking to get famous by gaining media exposure for a new product, service, book, movie, or record that is coming out; or to get them out of a mess that could possibly hurt the sales of their new product, service, book, movie or record.  But if you are looking to change things up a bit, all you need to do is build a stronger personal brand. 

At a loss on where to start?  These four simple steps can help you start building a more authentic and powerful personal brand.  

1. DO YOU!  

Whatever you believe makes you great, then do it.  Try not to let other's opinions or limitations be placed on your dreams.  At the end, the world has already seen a Oprah, but we are just waiting to see the best you! 

2. KNOW YOUR WORTH!

Of course with any negotiations, there is give and take.  However, do not take a deal that does not work for you.  Whether you are choosing a husband or wife, buying a house or reviewing a job offer, negotiate from a point of strength not weakness.  Know what you deliver and the value it commands.  Don't be afraid to walk away.  Trust that the next deal with work in your favor.    

3. LOOK TO THRIVE NOT JUST SURVIVE! 

Look for opportunities, adventures, and even relationships that let your passion and creativity shine.  Try not to go into situations where you are looking to just survive.  Surviving limits you to a self-created box.  Look to jump in, add value, show what you are made of! 

4. LEARN TO SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER

Whether you are talking to Matt Lauer or an employer, demonstrating the courage and conviction to stand up for your ideas or opinions will make you a stronger and more professional person.  Whatever the outcome, you will feel empowered when you speak truth and voice your opinion. 

Building a personal brand is more than freshly whitened teeth, a new outfit and hot hair.  When I counsel clients, I share with them that building or re-building a personal brand take work.  That work takes place from the inside out!  Can't dress up a skunk and pretend it doesn't stink.  Under all those nice things, it's still a skunk!
